A Weekend at Seabrook

August 3, 2017

I'm fresh off a weekend of sessions at Seabrook, WA and as usual, I had a wonderful time.  My focus this trip was balance.  I've over worked myself in the past so this time I wanted to spend more time relaxing and enjoying my own family as well as my clients.  It was a perfect mix this time.

We spent our first evening heading out for a walk to the farm district.  Walking hand in hand with my baby girl never gets old.  I love the feeling of peace that Seabrook evokes.  It's quiet and reminds me to live a more simple life.  I need that gentle reminder sometimes.

I had 6 families join me this trip so we had quite a variety of light and locations to shoot in.  Each family brings such a unique feeling to their session.  Sometimes we are on the go the whole time, chasing toddlers and cracking up.  Other times things are very relaxed and we hang out on a blanket just enjoying each other.  I love the variety!  I never know what to expect so whatever I'm given, I just go with it.  Having 5 children myself, I know how stressful photo sessions can be so my main goal is to make sure that everyone is relaxed and having fun, zero pressure to act a certain way.

My favorite part of capturing families is seeing the love between them.  I love to watch Mamas with their kiddos, the way they look at them, you can feel the love a mile away.  Dads are so fun because you can see the way they loosen up as the session goes on.  Giving people the freedom to just be themselves has been a huge game changer for me.  I think the perfect picture is being able to see others love on each other with interaction.  I don't worry about everyone looking at me and smiling.  I want to tell the story of a family, to see the personalities come out.  I'm a story teller and I want to capture families being real and genuine.  Those are the most beautiful pictures to me.
